Welcome to Curator-in-Residence, Christina Massey
We are pleased to announce Kunstraum’s 2023-24 Curator-in-Residence, Christina Massey!
Christina Massey (she/her) is an independent curator and the creator of the WoArtBlog. She uses her curatorial platform to explore various aspects of the feminine experience. Most recently, “Out of Line” exhibited at the Court Tree Collective, Brooklyn, NY in 2022 spoke to the boundaries of societal norms. “Domestic Brutes” co-curated with Etty Yaniv of Art Spiel at Pelham Art Center in Pelham, NY, 2020, responded to the 100th anniversary of the passage of the right to vote for some, but not all women. The show included artists that are immigrants, a Dreamer and transgender and continued the conversation of equity and rights for all women.
In 2022, Massey curated a fundraiser exhibition that featured over 30 artists and 50 artworks and raised over $35,000 for charity. She has curated for programs like All SHE makes, the I Like Your Work Podcast and the Women's Caucus for Art DC for online and catalog exhibitions. Christina serves on the Advisory Board for MSEUM, the first museum for women built by women.
During her 12-month term as CIR, Christina will curate three exhibitions, and assume a key leadership role in directing our artist-run gallery’s programming. The CIR program focuses on facilitating exhibitions and events to engage our community while also encouraging invited curators, artists, and other guests to collaborate, think critically, and take risks in their practices.
Please join us in welcoming Christina to the Kunstraum team, we look forward to supporting her work and further developing her curatorial vision!
